Sejarah Melayu is a story of how Sang Utama, ruler of Palembang in Sumatra, who founded Temasek. Sang Utama saw an island across the sea.He asked one of his ministers ” What place is that?” His minister said that the land is known a Temasek. They where on the way to Temasek on boat when a violent storm broke out. Those people on boat were very anxious as the boat is sinking. They felt that the boat is sinking because of the king’s crown and told Sang Utama to throw the crown into the sea. Surprisingly, the storm really stopped. When they reached the island, sang Utama and his ministers decided to hunt wild animals. While hunting, Sang Utama saw a strange, beast.
